Corporate Claptrap No 1

Apparantly, the new Maps app in iOS6, ahem, could be better…..in other words it’s pretty crap and as usual there are lots of people out there letting everyone else know. They’re also letting Apple know as well. Now, I never use the maps apps on smartphones, have never used Google Maps more than about twice in 5 years so losing Google Maps and having a shit replacement is not something that personally concerns me. Nonetheless, if Apple is going to take away a stalwart bit of software and replace it then the replacement has to be up to a comparable standard or else people will not be best pleased, especially if they can’t get a suitable alternative.

Anyway, here’s the bit of corporate claptrap that the Apple spokesperson came out with. Apple spokesperson, Trudy Miller, has responded on behalf of the company claiming that it will get better over time.

“Customers around the world are upgrading to iOS 6 with over 200 new features including Apple Maps, our first map service,” said spokeswoman Trudy Miller. “We are excited to offer this service with innovative new features like Flyover, turn-by-turn navigation, and Siri integration. We launched this new map service knowing it is a major initiative and that we are just getting started with it. Maps is a cloud-based solution and the more people use it, the better it will get. We appreciate all of the customer feedback and are working hard to make the customer experience even better.”

Classic. No addressing of the problems, no “we are going to sort this out by x date”, no “we’re sorry this is rather poor”…..these companies, and it’s certainly not just Apple, just use these opportunities to spout forth the company manifesto whilst conveniently managing to ignore the reason why they are having to make an announcement in the first place.
